perliana is an independent online magazine about pearls. It is published by NexTao GmbH in Düsseldorf and belongs to the Lifestyle Marketing Club, a network of independent luxury magazines. Its purpose fits into a few words: understand, buy and care for pearls.

Pearls are a material with rules of their own. An Akoya from Japan, a South Sea pearl from Australia and a Tahitian pearl from French Polynesia differ in size, colour and lustre, the glow that appears to come from inside the pearl. Anyone buying a strand should know these differences. That is what the perliana editorial team writes for: guides on pearl types, prices, authenticity, care and history.

The editorial team does not grade pearls and does not issue appraisals. Anyone who needs the value of a piece documented will find the right route through laboratories such as GIA or SSEF and through sworn experts. The magazine explains what such a certificate states and where its limits lie.

How we work

Every figure in the magazine has a source. Prices, sizes and market data come from publications by institutes such as GIA and CIBJO, from customs statistics and from auction results. The sources appear at the end of each article. Where an exact figure cannot be verified, the text gives a range. Buying advice is written without dealer influence. Articles are checked before publication and revised when new findings emerge, with the date shown.

Advertising in the magazine

perliana is funded by contributions from members of the Lifestyle Marketing Club. These contributions are labelled as advertising and kept separate from the editorial guides. A paid contribution changes nothing about a buying recommendation and nothing about the way a pearl type is described. Members who would like to present themselves can reach the editorial team through the contact page.

The publisher is NexTao GmbH, Königsallee 27, 40212 Düsseldorf. The perliana editorial team is responsible for the content. Questions, comments and corrections are always welcome.
